Medical Information, Sickness and Absence Procedures

We work closely with the medical services. We have regular visits from the school nurse who is pleased to discuss problems with parents. We are able to make referrals to the Community Paediatrician. There are occasional dental inspections.

Occasionally there may be problems with head lice - remember head lice like clean hair and that children work very closely together. The best form of prevention is regular combing, but if you do have problems please make sure you treat the whole family before your child returns to school. Do please also let us know so that we can guard against re-infestation.

If your child needs support in school for a health problem, either temporary or permanent, or needs support following an accident/illness, please do let us know as soon as possible.  You can either speak to your child's class teacher or contact the school office.  You may be asked to complete a temporary care plan for your child in the first instance. 

 

Please ensure that Emergency Numbers are available and updated when necessary.

 

Sickness
If your child is unwell, please keep him/her at home until all signs of the illness have gone. Following sickness or diarrhoea, to help us to contain the spread of infection, please keep your child away from school for 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided. Please let us know at once if your child has an infectious disease.
 
Absence
In cases of illness please telephone us at school before 9.00am to let us know if your child will not be in school, failure to do so will result in a text being sent to those parents of pupils for whom there is no known reason for absence. Please do not rely on email communication for pupil absences. Please also give us notice of hospital, dental or doctor's appointments prior to the day of the appointment.

First Aid
The school has several qualified first aiders who deal with minor accidents. Parents are informed via email of  any accident and treatment. If a child has received a bump on the head, it is our policy to send a letter home warning parents to watch for signs of concussion. In the event of a more serious accident we call the child's parents immediately.

 

Medicines
We have systems in place to help with long term medication and this requires written permission which includes information about exact dosage. For short courses of medication we ask you to try to fit the administration around the school day or to find a willing friend to administer during the school day.
